Strategic Communications + Media Relations

Over the last 20 years, I have worked for a number of organizations on their strategic communications and media relations. Below is a small sample of the types of high profile work I've done.

US Senator Bob Graham (D-FL)

Media Relations AND ON THE RECORD SPOKESPERSON

I developed relationships national and internationally with top news outlets and television networks. During one year in my tenure with the Senator (2002), he had the most Sunday morning political talk show appearance of any member of Congress.

OP-ED Writing AND Speech WRITING

As the Chief Speechwriter, I reviewed and edited all floor statements for the Senator - ensuring a consistent editorial voice on public statements. I also ghost wrote a number of op-eds for the Senator that appeared in The Miami Herald, The Boston Globe, The Washington Post and others.

The Animal Welfare Institute

I worked with the Animal Welfare Institute on their legal efforts to end the use of elephants in the circus in the United States.

Media Relations

Our efforts included stories in top US news sources including the NY Times, LA Times, NPR, ABC, CBS, CNN and more. After an ultimately unsuccessful protracted legal battle, as well as a heavy battle in the court of public opinion, Feld Entertainment has ended their use of Asian elephants in the circus. MESSAGE DEVELOPMENT

As part of media support of the court case, I developed all media talking points in consultation with the case attorneys. We would also prepare daily summaries to distribute to reporters about what had happened in the case, ensuring we were the go to source of information.

SPOKESPERSON TRAINING

Before the trial, I also media trained key spokespeople, conducting mock on-camera training and reviewing the footage with the spokespeople to highlight their strengths and weaknesses.
